We invite you to the 29th edition of the TAP AHEAD Festival from 14 to 17 May, curated by Daniel Luka. We look forward to more than 20 workshops, three stage presentations and artists such as Thomas Marek, Leela Petronio, Avalon Rathgeb, and Josh Hilberman. The festival opens with Avalon Rathgeb’s solo debut Unbound. In her piece, the London tap dance artist interweaves questions of identity – artistic, sexual, gender-related and individual in nature – and takes on the topic of objectification. Tap dance pioneer Thomas Marek will present his new album Footprints in a danced concert on Friday, during which he, together with pianist Patrick Bebelaar and bassist Jan Roder, will integrate tap dance, percussion and drums into recordings of jazz standards and improvisations. International tap artists will gather on the great stage on Saturday, celebrating the 29th TAP AHEAD Gala during the TAP AHEAD Festival! Rich in rhythms, courageous in improvisation and featuring guaranteed musical highlights, tanzhaus nrw shows “tap at its best”. Over four days, the great international tap community transforms tanzhuas nrw into a pulsating space full of rhythm, joy, and creativity.
