Claiming Common Spaces VIII

Shift the Vibe

When was the last time you left a performance feeling energized? Carried for hours by a sense of connection, freedom, and renewed strength? The more authoritarian politics, exploitation, and war shape our everyday lives, the more urgent the need becomes for spaces that create a different atmosphere—one that allows for difference, vulnerability, and shared energy. Spaces where we set a new tone together. Listening, observing, singing along, dancing along, thinking for ourselves.
Shift the Vibe is an invitation to do just that: As part of the eighth edition of the Claiming Common Spaces festival, FFT and tanzhaus nrw invite you to four days filled with dance, performances, lectures, discussions, workshops, and encounters in Düsseldorf. The guests are artists who, each in their own way, embody the working methods and aesthetics of the independent performing arts within the Alliance of International Production Houses—international perspectives merge with urban neighborhoods, resistance meets care, and grief meets energy.
For many, appearing on stage and in public spaces always involves risk, asserting oneself and taking a political stance. How do we create space for quiet and vulnerable voices? How do we withstand contradictions and ambiguity? And what does a progressive, avant-garde self-image of the arts even mean today?
Let’s shift the vibe: let’s stand together — carried by the sharpness, determination and energy of the invited artists!
