Taoufiq Izeddiou / Anania Danses

In a duet between dance and music, Hors du monde leads the audience to a place beyond the world. Choreographer Taofiq Izeddio therefore employs traditional ritual trance practices, transferring them to a dance piece which he created specifically for guitarist Mathieu Gaborit aka aYaTo and dancer Hassan Oumzili. In the intense sounding electric guitar riffs, the feeling of anger becomes palpable to which the performance answers: The anger towards the lunacy of the world. The duo rises toward the brink of physical exhaustion. Once arrived, the possibility of change glistens. They take their audience on a journey towards a futuristic world full of new emotions, spirituality, and stories. The choreography grasps for changed states of mind, for a new rite of transcendence. Hors du monde makes palpable the longing to find an alternative to the current world and to dare to attempt a new beginning in the void.

Taoufiq Izeddiou last guested at tanzhaus nrw for the premiere of En Alerte in 2016. The Moroccan choreographer is among the central artistic personas of the North African dance scene, constantly referring the central importance of humanity and individual responsibility beyond nationalism. Izeddiou always finds new ways to connect dance and live music, traditional Arabic and contemporary elements. Taoufiq Izeddiou has, together with Bouchra Ouizguen and Said Aït El Moumen, founded Anania company, Morocco’s first contemporary dance group. Two years later, he initiated the On Marche festival. His works, consistently dealing with the friction between tradition and modernism, have by now been at festivals and in theatres around the globe. He lives between France and Morocco.
