About Ligia Lewis

Ligia Lewis, co-curator of the VOLUME UP festival is a choreographer and dancer, develops expressive concepts that lend shape to movements, language, affects, thoughts, relationships, expressions and to the bodies that carry them. Given cohesion by the logic of reciprocity, of chaos und play, she shapes space for that which emerges, and for the undetermined. In the and through the embodied practice, the body encounters aural and visual metaphors that materialise the enigmatic, the poetic and the dissonant factors in her work. Ligia Lewis was a tanzhaus nrw Factory Artist and won numerous awards, most recently the Tabori prize.

As part of VOLUME UP, she will be showing the world premiere of Still Not Still on Fri 06.08 + Sat 07.08. 20:00 and creating connections towards her performance in the  Artist Workshop II: Imagemaking Sat 14.08. 11:00. There, Ligia Lewis deals with “image making” and the universalisation versus the localisation of styles, techniques, and aesthetics in contemporary dance practice.
