(Excerpt from the jury statement)

For all softies and those who want to become one. The first day back after summer break: the mismatched twins Sam and Gabriel are new at school. When a competition is announced, the two TV series fanatics sense their chance: 100,000 euros for the best performance by an extracurricular group. Aiming to win the money with the pilot episode of their own show, they set up an after-school club, which is quickly joined by two like-minded people. But the newcomers to the group also have spectacular ideas about what a series launch could look like. Whats more, the rest of the kids at school have their eyes on the prize as well. A Hollywood-style thriller ensues with a rousing season finale. Boys will be boys? This production-ready coming-of-age story is about growing up and the challenges of identity, loss, masculinity, love and friendship.

Junges Schauspielhaus Bochum has been around since 2000 and has had its own venue, the Theaterrevier, since 2020. Its programme is characterised by new narrative formats for a modern and diverse urban society. In addition to offering plays for the whole family, Junges Schauspielhaus gives children, teens and adults the opportunity to band together in theatre troupes (so-called “gangs”) and develop artistic productions of their own. Theaterrevier provides a space for exploring new methods and concepts of theatre development. To this end, a 15-member children’s and youth supervisory board, Drama Control, was founded whose members (aged 5-21) can suggest themes and help shape projects.
