Bad Bugs is a performance that is just as green as it is forward-looking which combines environmental awareness with powerful music and interactive theatre.
(Excerpt from the jury statement)

Insects have a dubious reputation among humans. They sting and bite, crawl into nooks and crannies and, according to popular opinion, are simply disgusting with their spindly legs, antennae and compound eyes. Yet many insects are extremely useful and essential for maintaining ecological balance. In this production, the “Bad Bugs want to take a stand against their impending demise. With their band of the same name, they travel the country fighting against the destruction of their habitat with a hard shell but a soft core—veritably tough on the outside, soft on the inside. They demand nothing less than our solidarity in the fight against the destruction of their natural habitat and encourage the audience to play an active role in creating a diverse, lively and liveable environment in which humans and animals can feel equally at home.
Founded in 1993, Theater Marabu is a professional independent theatre company for young audiences with a venue of its own in Brotfabrik cultural centre. It additionally tours with all of its productions and has given guest performances in 17 countries. Its productions have been distinguished with several awards.

In 2015, Theater Marabu received the ASSITEJ Award for outstanding achievements in theatre for young audiences as well as the INTHEGA Award for pioneering theatre work.
