Cultural Drag
Artist collective TachoTinta declares life to be a show in “Cultural Drag”: It is not about what you are but about what you become! The drag show of different cultural identities is a game of positive uncertainty, cultural misunderstandings, and glamourous exaggerations. The performers draw from their own experiences throughout: They all know what it means when assumptions on culture, identity and trans-culturalism are woven into prejudice. In this piece, at once colourful and pensive, they toy with the concept of “stereotyping oneself”. This turns into a subversive strategy to tackle expectations, ascriptions and the perception of others. TachoTinta last guested at tanzhaus nrw with “Ms. Mon” during Now & Next, the platform for upcoming North Rhine-Westphalian choreographers, in 2018. In 2019, they received the flausen+stipendium and performed “Entre 2: A Second Deal” at the HUNDERTPRO Festival in the Ringlokschuppen Ruhr.
