GEGENWART CHOREOGRAFIEREN

New tanzhaus nrw publication

How can dance show us ways to deal with social questions and problems of our times? How can dance aid us in finding answers? And to what extent may dance generate an awareness of problems in the first place, at all?

Under Bettina Masuch’s artistic directorship (2014-2022), tanzhaus nrw evolved into a space in which dance is perceived as an empathic art form, grounded in reality, socio-politically relevant, important in light of contemporary policy. The GEGENWART CHOREOGRAFIEREN publication is dedicated to this development as it collects conversations, essays, and pictures that relate artistic positions, content-related questions, structural debates, and curatorial decisions of this time to each other. With the 250 page-strong volume, tanzhaus nrw also documents its contribution to current specialist discourses on care, for oneself as well as for others, on community, body 2.0, or disability culture. The publication should be seen as a workbook, not as a knowledge-preserving tome, but rather a tool serving the readers in the examination and expansion of their own work practices.

The publication will be introduced to the public at tanzhaus nrw in the context of the Factory Finale during the Marathon Talk on Saturday, April 2nd, at 4 pm.

You may purchase the workbook directly at the  Alexander Verlag Berlin websiteThe subscription price currently lies at 20,00 € (D) and will go up to 25,00 € (D) starting on June 30th.

This publication has been made possible by the Alliance of International Production Houses, with support granted by the Federal Commissioner for Culture and the Media as well as by the Kunststiftung NRW.
