SHIFT THE VIBE , Claiming Common Spaces VIII Festival Opening
We are kicking off the new season with a special collaboration: FFT and tanzhaus nrw, together with the Alliance of International Production Houses, invite you to the Claiming Common Spaces festival! Under the motto Shift the Vibe, you can look forward to four days packed with performances, encounters, parties and discussions. Shift the Vibe is a call for greater flexibility – in our bodies and in our minds. It stands against the tendency towards rigidity in times of war, polarisation and propaganda. An invitation to engage with a world in flux, whilst also allowing space for grief and vulnerability. Claiming Common Spaces brings together artists who, each in their own way, embody the work of the Alliance of International Production Houses. They open up spaces for solidarity and share strategies for connection. The festival aims to encourage people to take change into their own hands.

Ulrike Haß is a theatre scholar and writer. Until her retirement in 2016, she taught as a professor at Ruhr University Bochum. Since then, she has been working as a visiting lecturer at various universities in Germany and abroad. She has published extensively on issues relating to the stage, imagery and space in theatre. In her book Kraftfeld Chor (2021), she examines choral relationships in the works of Aeschylus, Sophocles, Kleist, Beckett and Jelinek.
More than just a party! DUB-KE invites us into an energetic dance universe of non-Western club culture. There will be frenetic celebrations at the Migrantpolitan at Kampnagel in Hamburg. To mark the festival’s opening, DUB-KE is joining forces with local enthusiasts of Levantine tradition. After all, DUB-KE comes from DABKEH and offers an experience full of love and a fascinating atmosphere. It all kicks off with a “Dabke crash course”. Later on, traditional live beats will meet thumping basslines. No prior experience required!
