With works by Adele Schneeweiß and Sergio Monferrer Vázquez
The platform for up-and-coming choreographers regularly presents the first works, projects and work in progress by artists from North Rhine-Westphalia. Up to three short pieces are presented on one evening. This is followed by a discussion with the artists. In the June edition of Now & Next, we present young aesthetics from the contemporary scene.

Adele Schneeweiß: Lavender Rhino
Lavender Rhino is a physical exploration of gender as spectrum, resistance, and play. Through a body read as female, the piece dismantles binary expectations and stereotypes with bold, nuanced gestures—spitting, flexing, strutting, collapsing. A stable upper body becomes the battleground of contradiction: strength meets vulnerability, shyness takes up space, and fragility stares back, unashamed.
This performance plays with the absurd precision with which society assigns gender to movement. Masculine, feminine, neither, both – Lavender Rhino embodies the in-betweenness. It is a dance of tension and harmony, of not fitting in and refusing to shrink. In a world that insists on black or white, this piece chooses lavender.
Adele Schneeweiß is a multidisciplinary artist currently studying dance at Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen.
Sergio Monferrer Vázquez: My Body is Extraordinary
My Body is Extraordinary is an exploration of “excellence” in the world of dance. It reflects on who gets to decide who is allowed to dance and who is not, interrogating the structures of elitism and power, and the recurring narratives that serve to reserve dance for the “entitled.” Drawing from the ar-tist’s personal story, the piece opens a dialogue with the audience about how dance is taught – caught between impossibility and self-discovery, between fear and catharsis. This work is dedicated to all those who have been denied the joy of their own body.
Sergio Monferrer Vázquez is an actor, performer, and dancer, currently studying dance at the Centre for Contemporary Dance in Cologne.
