Clara Furey / Bent Hollow
Three celestial bodies, shot into orbit, vibrating in a lascivious and hypnotic ritual. From impulse to gesture, sexy at times, then again mechanically, Clara Furey’s creation assembles like a polyphony of pulsating bodies. Veering from dissonance to consonance, Furey makes accessible how sound vibrations penetrate bones, how skeletons absorb shock, closely listening to the bodily presence. On stage, dancers Justin De Luna, Jontae McCrory and Brian Mendez erect a space for the pure joy of movement and sound. The trio lives off empathy and sharpened acuity towards the energies of the bodies on stage. Dog Rising invites us to embark on an extreme journey, into a hypnotic, intense and piercing spiral. It is an invitation to growth and to regenerate physical power. Shock and discomfort are transformed into joy – a choreography to enthral.
Clara Furey is a choreographer and performer based in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal. She researches the codes that move in and between different art forms. She attempts to awaken the sensual perception of both audience and performers, enabling them to have a direct emotional access. Following her musical education at the Conservatoire de Paris, she graduated in dance from the École de danse contemporaire de Montréal, later working with choreographers such as George Stamos, Damien Jaleta, and Benoît Lachambre.
Her works have been shown at numerous festivals, among them the Venice Biennal, TransAmériques Festival in Montréal, ImPulsTanz in Vienna, Performance Mix in New York City, Fierce Festival Birmingham, and B-Motion in Bassano del Grappa. We are very happy she will guest at tanzhaus nrw for the first time with Dog Rising.
