Katharina Senzenberger
Lovedance deals with love from a queer perspective. As an equivalent to the love song, the team around Katharina Senzenberger is in search of a love dance that deals with the kind of romance that makes you soar. While doing this, the performance reflects on possibilities of being together and sketches out new forms of relating.
The choreography draws from a collective archive of affective dance styles and romantic gestures such as the Viennese waltz or the pas de deux found in the entertainment industries. These are embodied as well as scrutinised by the performers. Between dependency and trust, leading and following, resistance and devotion, the duet is dedicated to a practice of relation-making that speculates how complex and ambivalent our relationships might become. Meanwhile, Lovedance nests on Cloud 9. Without fear of overlapping expressive kitsch, confrontation, airiness, drama, roughness, care, and maximum sincerity, passionate togetherness unfolds as a subtle liminal state.
Katharina Senzenberger’s works encompass stage productions, installation and digital works, and they have been shown at tanzhaus nrw, at Tanzfaktur Cologne, at Lehartheater Bad Ischl, at the Favoriten Festival, during tanz nrw, Horst Music & Arts Festival, as well as elsewhere. Senzenberger’s very first professionally produced stage work Wetland (2022) received an invitation to Tanzplattform Deutschland. This was followed up in 2023 by the second stage production a dance routine, this time within collective senzenberger|rieck. Lovedance marks Senzeneberger’s third coproduction with tanzhaus nrw.
