pulse
The room pulses – like a heart. Standstill. Glances are drawn to one another, forming an almost palpable fabric. Intertwinings are constantly forming to pass over into a stream of bodies that flows and pauses. pulse creates an immersive space that constantly renews itself, revealing different intensities of flow and pulsation. Mapping visualises the reciprocal relation between the bloodstream and rhythms, Alevi ritual and concepts of somatic practice. In the spiritual rituals of Alevism, one participates in ceremony (Cem) by shedding gender, social status, and conflict, and one practices “being”. This Alevi tradition brings its members closer, opening and connecting their hearts. This project wraps its audience in sound and movement while being encircled by the dancers. Everchanging new constellations of steps, sounds, and rhythms, oscillating between acoustic and visual formations, invite the audience to see with their ears and to hear with their eyes.
