REACHING
REACHING is a choreographic exploration of rave culture, dedicated to the meaning of the moments and spaces in which it is lived. Originating from the ecstatic posture of his HIGHER xtn. performance, Michele Rizzo’s research traces range from the border region of REACHING through a slow choreography with 14 performers, a sound score by composer Billy Bultheel, and Theresa Baumgartner’s lighting design. The audience will be seated right around and next to the dancers on tanzhaus nrw’s Große Bühne/ Grand Stage. Therefore, the spectators will witness a rousing choreography of friction and convergence in direct proximity.
Between the individual and the group, inner and outer spheres as well as with driving techno beats, REACHING proves to be a choreographic journey under moving bodies that desire, attract, and repel each other. REACHING opens a performative space for the circulation of ecstasy and euphoria, and it makes phenomena of acceleration, retardation, and expansion of time palpable.
Choreographer and multi-disciplinary artist Michele Rizzo received training in the visual arts as well as in dance. In his works, Rizzo examines transformational and transcendental processes. Michele Rizzo studied at the Sandberg Instituut and at the School for New Dance Development (SNDD) in Amsterdam, where he is frequently active as a guest lecturer for choreography and movement research.
