Eine Gruppe von schwarz gekleideten Menschen geht auf das Publikum zu.

This work by Greek choreographer Christos Papadopoulos has been titled after a gigantic ice shelf that extends along the east coast of the Antarctic peninsula. It has been named for the Norwegian captain who sailed along the shelf ice in December of 1893. The shelf movements are so slow as to be imperceptible to the human senses. It seems to us as if its movement has been absorbed by space and time.
In the Larsen C choreography by Christos Papadopoulos, the human bodies attune themselves to this perpetual tempo during a dreamlike sequence, as they increasingly seem as otherworldly as a landscape in the polar night. Slowly, the dancers become visible in the spotlight, gradually falling into movement, pulling the audience’s gaze into a continually growing surge or movement.
Larsen C is a solemn tribute to the silent transmission of bodies with which Papadopolous will guest at tanzhaus nrw for the first time.

Christos Papadopoulos studied dance and choreography at the SNDO (School for New Dance Development) in Amsterdam and political science at Athen’s Panteion University. He is a graduate of the Greek National Theatre drama school. Point of departure and inspiration for his work is most often a single moment, a fleeting impression that appears to have almost no duration at all. Papadopoulos is an exact observer of those minimal movements that assemble into a vibrant choreography through rhythm and repetition.

Duration: 60 min.
