PERFORM!

What drives us? How much are we willing to give to constantly improve ourselves? And what remains after success or failure? Antje Velsinger takes a look at the microcosm of high-performance sports with PERFORM!, to trace our fascination for performance. Inspired by talks with actors in high-performance sports, we gaze back at our own living realities. We try to deal with the ambivalence of the performance system, by means of a choreographic interplay between dance, drums and live generated sound sets, with found footage from sports events and poetic video images: We never get enough and we do not want any more. We are exhausted and cannot stop. We admire the strong, athletic bodies and bemoan the prize we have to pay for them. On the stage, an emotional roller coaster of bodies ensues, dreaming of taking flight, of endless cycles of training and competition, of energy and wearing abrasion.

Antje Velsinger works as a freelance choreographer and performer in Hamburg and Cologne. She examines the intersections of movement, sound installation, and visual arts in her works. She most recently presented Dreams in a cloudy space at tanzhaus nrw. This performance received an invitation to the Favoriten Festival Dortmund as well as to other festivals. PERFORM! is the third installment in the Bodies of Capitalism series in which Antje Velsinger analyses the special role the body plays in our Western consumer and performer society.
