Other World

Alfredo Zinola invites his audience into the depths of a classroom in his newest production. In everyday life at the school, this chamber represents a practical, functional space in which all items are assigned to their respective fixed spots. What would it be like if we stopped, for a moment, to observe everything more clearly – to see all those things that are situated in this space, so well-known to us? Does anything reveal itself in a different light? Do we witness what happens when the children are not present in the classroom? We might even discover the campfire that lights up between the tables and the chairs in the evenings. Yet, we will only succeed in uncovering the invisible if we change our perspective.
“Other World” is a site-specific dance performance in a classroom, an aesthetic experience that will change the perspective the elementary class pupils have on their familiar surroundings.
Alfredo Zinola, one of the new Factory Artists 2020 – 2022 at tanzhaus nrw alongside Reut Shemesh and urban collective nutrospektif, has taken it upon himself to create a contemporary dance experience, in a participative manner and aimed at a young audience, too. In an interview, the Italian choreographer and performer, who currently resides in Cologne as well as in Munich, describes the goals of his work as follows:

“I am interested in the production of contemporary dance performances for children. In this, I take inspiration from the relation between society and the world of children. I strive to create a consistent and uncompromising experience between the audience and the performers.”  Alfredo Zinola
