Club27

POSTPONED: Enis Turan
Big stage
Dates
13.03.2020 – 14.03.2020

The performance “Club27” by Enis Turan will be postponed until November 2020.

The Club 27 is an internationally known myth, simultaneously forbidding and glamourous. Its members – artists like Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain or Amy Winehouse – all died aged 27.
The motif of those who passed away young, becoming immortal idols in the process, is the basis of this first feature-length creation by Enis Turan, as created for four performers. The dancer and choreographer, a Cologne University of Music graduate, asks for concepts of fugacity in the arts here. Works in the visual arts are made to span eternity, but how is it in dance?
In context with the promotion of legendary status surrounding Club 27, Enis Turan was confronted with life’s caducity, with self-destruction and destruction from the outside, at 27. Yet death does not represent the end and the cessation of all things but rather continuum and transformation. A space for possibility emerges that includes the thoughts of vanitas and memento mori with the assumption to perceive life and dance not as perishable but as having passed already. A space of possibility of timelessness wherein death loses its tragic weight and its relevance comes up.
