Die Geschichte vom Soldaten
Tonhalle / directed by Nora Pfahl
When you’re getting involved with the devil, you’re going to far! This is evidenced in Goethe’s “Faust” as well as in Igor Stravinsky’s “The Soldier’s Tale”. In this musical theatre piece for chamber ensemble, speakers and dancers, a young soldier slides down into the devil’s grasp, forced to witness his losing grip on his own life. Stravinsky created a play on seduction, trespassing and misconduct, and it is delivered to the stage by musicians from the Düsseldorf Symphony and pupils from the Joseph Beuys Comprehensive School. In it, the young performers are on a quest for their own interpretation of Stravinsky’s music via dance.
