How do you fear?
Small Stage
08.11.2017 – 11.11.2017
Eine Tänzerin kniet auf dem Boden und blickt nach oben.

Who or what provokes our fear? What stories does the body tell about those fears, and how does it proclaim resistance? By way of the character of Joan of Arc, a leading figure engrossed by very different currents, Fabien Prioville dissects the fine line between the vulnerability and the defence of the human body. He simultaneously asks for the tension between menace and sovereignty within a person. Beyond the single person, Fabien Prioville’s new staging puts forth the question for a social body, which –according to French philosopher Michel Foucault – is governed by the “key technology of fear”. Subtly, it creeps into our everyday lives, influencing our decisions as well as our behaviour. In constantly changing images, Fabien Prioville sheds a light on the directional sensitivity of body and psyche, directing dancer Gesa Piper as an untiring warrior. As a boxer fighting real ghosts until complete exhaustion sets in, she embodies a modern-day Joan of Arc – true to her mission and in antagonism towards a world she claims for herself.

With this solo, the longstanding Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch dancer remains true to his expressive style. Additionally, he maps out new spaces for dance virtuosity through the use of new video technology such as Live Projection Mapping, where he makes the perception dance between illusion and reality.
