Dunham Class

Course with Joseph P. Cooksey

The Dunham Technique is based on studies by the choreographer, dancer, anthropologist and political activist Katherine Dunham on dances from Martinique, Jamaica, Trinidad and Haiti. The American pioneer of Black Dance combined these influences from Afro-American, West Indian and Caribbean dance into an independent dance language. In his Dunham Class, Joseph P. Cooksey teaches a wide spectrum of this versatile form of movement, which is part of the canon of jazz and modern dance, but for many is less a dance style and more a “way of life”.
