Teacher Workshop IV: Flamenco

Workshop with José M. Sánchez Moreno

This workshop deals with the colonial influence on flamenco using examples from South and Central America. After a theoretical introduction, the arc is drawn into practice by the participants learning two selected dances - Colombiana and Guajir.

The Columbiana with a fan belongs to the "Cantes de ida y vuelta", a group of flamenco styles from Hispo-American folk music. The title of the chants, which translates as “round trip”, refers to the Spanish emigrants who brought flamenco to America and later, changed, back to Europe. The South American influence is clearly noticeable in the Colombiana. It's light, playful, and soft. The guajira with a fan invites you to gently flirt over the fan edge and underlines the elegance of the woman or man in a melodic 12-note rhythm.

The workshop is suitable both for getting to know the flamenco technique and for deepening existing knowledge.

In Teacher Workshops, the academy's lecturers respond to questions raised by the festival and teach workshops from the perspective of their work practice.

This workshop is part of the Volume Up Festival. Festival pass holders pay only 5 euros for each workshop.
