“The year is drawing to a close, the energies concentrate, a reckoning is due. The new year is just around the corner, waiting for new powers. Change and transformation are central aspects in butoh dance, which I would like to introduce to you here,” says Sabine Seume. Butoh, also described as the “rebellion of the body”, emerged in 1960s Japan. As an antipole to Western dance forms, butoh does not follow conventional conceptions of dance or body imagery, but rather directs our gaze inward. Our curiosity and the longing to rediscover one’s own dance – in pure and new form – are the motivations to take this journey.
