VOLUME UP

What’s told and what isn’t? With the VOLUME UP series, tanzhaus nrw gives way for perspectives beyond prevailing Central European narratives. Together with artists such as Panaibra Gabriel Canda, Sorour Darabi, Shira Eviatar, Ligia Lewis, Zwoisy Mears-Clarke, and Dorothée Munyaneza, in performances, workshops, talks and a symposium, we question how the writing of history influences our viewing practices, knowledge and thinking. Through dance, personal stories and historical events become visible and open up a diverse, previously neglected wealth of knowledge. VOLUME UP becomes a meeting place for unheard stories and unacknowledged ways of knowing as it hosts these explorations of representation, historiography and bodily archives based on artistic positions, personalities and topics that exist outside the canon.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the series “VOLUME UP. Unheard Stories, Unacknowledged Knowledge” opens in December 2020 with an online preview. Performances this December will take place online. Live performances will take place in summer 2021.

The VOLUME UP series is funded by Kunststiftung NRW.
