Magda Szpecht , Staging Evidence: Art in Times of Hybrid War
Considering war crimes and human rights violations, the question for artistic responsibility arises. Less obvious are the effects that hybrid warfare has on the capability for empathy and, in turn, on the foundations of democratic community. What does this mean for theatre that is dedicated to enlightenment?
Magda Szpecht is a multi-award-winning director and author of performances and installations. Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale war of aggression against Ukraine in February 2022, Szpecht has also been involved in cyber activism. In works such as “Cyber Elf” (2022), “Spy Girls” (2024) and “She Stands in the Middle of the Battlefield” (2025), she combines theatre, journalism, and digital counterpropaganda into a performative practice at the intersection of art and political action.

Admission is free, and no booking is required. Please note, however, that places are limited. Seats will be allocated from 5.30 pm, when the box office opens, on a first-come, first-served basis. Once all seats have been allocated, we regret that we will be unable to admit any further guests.

Early Boarding

Seating is not assigned for this lecture. Registration for Early Boarding is not required. Shortly before Early Boarding begins, an announcement will be made on-site.

Seating
Seating options include chairs without armrests, spaces for wheelchair users, and a limited number of beanbag seats. Beanbag seats and spaces for wheelchair users can be booked directly as the corresponding ticket category, either online or by phone.
Calm room
A calm room is available in Studio 1 at tanzhaus nrw. You can use it if you need a moment to yourself away from social interaction. The room has beanbags, cushions, and space to lie down. Please note that the room is not soundproof, so you may hear some noise from outside. Earplugs are available in the room if you need them.
