The Alliance of International Production Houses has not only been specialising on the international performing arts for the last ten years but also on local artistic strategy. In urban neighbourhoods, on-site networks and in collaboration with self-empowering communities, a diverse and viral communal art emerges. At The Claiming Common Spaces festival in Düsseldorf, the Alliance members and their partners invite the audience to an encounter.

tanzhaus nrw regularly opens its Foyer doors on Saturdays between 3 pm and 6 pm for all those who just want to dance – beyond consumerism and self-optimisation. Because dance brings joy, it brings people together, it makes us forget our daily cares.

In the September edition of Dance like nobody’s watching, Community of Reception – a group of blind, visually impaired and seeing artists who have been collaborating at tanzhaus nrw since 2023 – invite the audience to a remix of the well-known format. So, something that is already cool is transferred into their own cosmos and therefore becomes accessible to even more people.

The Community of Reception meets at tanzhaus nrw to attend workshops, theatre visits and to try out new formats of creative audio description and aesthetic accessibility. In the remixed version of Dance like nobody’s watching, one DJ and one MC person from North Rhine-Westphalia come together with the community and scrutinise club and party culture, probing how they could function well for people within the complete range of visual ability. The MC’s spoken-word expertise – as Masters of Ceremonies, hosting parties, moderating, or rapping – connects with creative audio description. So, experiments for the dancefloor rise, a dancefloor that is inviting without visual orientation. “Dance like nobody’*s watching – remixed” tries the tricks and ideas that were collected during this research.

Please join us! Dance and enjoy at your leisure.
