Dancing makes us happy, brings people together and lets us forget about everyday life. On up to two occasions per month, tanzhaus nrw opens its Foyer from 3 to 6 pm for anyone who simply wants to dance everything away - beyond consumption and self-optimization. After all, dancing makes us happy, brings people together and lets us forget about everyday life.

In the September edition of Dance like nobody’s watching, the Community of Reception – a group of blind, visually impaired, and sighted artists – invites you to a special party experiment.

For this remix, the Community collaborated with three artists from the fields of DJing and MCing in a two-day workshop in August to explore how a dance floor can be designed that isn’t based on sighted culture. In this process, the hosting expertise of MCs – Masters of Ceremonies who guide, moderate, and help shape the atmosphere of a dance floor – meets the Community’s artistic expertise in creative audio description for dance. The wishes and perceptual styles of the blind and visually impaired artists have given rise to new ideas for a dance floor and its vibe.

Now this experiment continues with you: At Dance like nobody’s watching – remixed, the community and the three MCs are opening up their experimental space and inviting you to experience a new kind of party together. The tricks and techniques from the lab are coming to the dance floor – and you’re invited to bring them to life with your own moves.

Come on by! Dance and have fun – on your own terms. Save your energy for dancing – we’ll take care of the rest. Our accessibility services (free of charge, of course) include an assistance service, a pick-up service, accommodations for service dogs, and an awareness team. You’ll find all the details below.

Pickup Service

There’s a free pickup service between the Info Point at Düsseldorf Central Station and the tanzhaus nrw entrance area. No registration is required.

During the event, there will be a WhatsApp channel called “CoR Begleitservice.” Current updates regarding the pickup service will be shared there – for example, if the pickup person is running late or there are last-minute changes.

From the Central Station to tanzhaus nrw: The first pickup departs at 2:40 p.m., followed by another pickup every 20 minutes. The meeting point is located toward the exit, right next to the Info Point at Düsseldorf Central Station. The pickup persons will make themselves audible so they can be easily found.

From tanzhaus nrw back to the main station: Starting at 3:00 p.m., an assistant will accompany visitors from the entrance area of tanzhaus nrw back to the information desk at Düsseldorf’s main station. Pickups also depart every 20 minutes until the end of the event.

Assistance in the Entrance Area

In the entrance area, on the right-hand side, there is a turquoise bench that serves as an information desk during the party. An assistant will be available there throughout the event. Here, you can ask questions or get help upon arrival and throughout the party – for example, you can ask for a description of the venue.

Assistance in the Foyer

In addition, another support staff member will be moving around the foyer and is available for assistance at any time. They will move through the space and make their presence known by ringing a small bell.

Facilities for Assistance Dogs

Assistance dogs are warmly welcome at the event. If needed, portable privacy screens are available to set up a protected retreat area. The support staff member will, of course, set up the privacy screens. If you have any questions or need assistance, you can contact the support staff member in the foyer or entrance area at any time.

Awareness Team

An Awareness Team consisting of two people will also be on site throughout the entire event. The Awareness Team will have a table directly to the right of the entrance to the foyer. If you feel uncomfortable, need support, or experience or witness a situation that crosses boundaries, you can contact the Awareness Team at any time.

Quiet Space

Throughout the party, a quiet space will be available in Studio 1 at tanzhaus nrw. This space offers the opportunity to step away from the party for a moment. The room is equipped with two beanbag chairs for sitting and yoga mats for lying down. Please note that the room is not soundproof, and sounds from the surrounding area may be muffled but still audible.
