Silke Grabinger
A collaboration between Silke Grabinger, Zirkus des Wissens (Circus of Knowledge) and the Johannes Kepler University Institute for Robotics
SPOTSHOTBEUYS joins dancer Silke Grabinger with Spot, the robot dog developed by Boston Dynamics. On the backdrop of Joseph Beuys’ action I like America and America likes me, this durational performance processes the contemporary relations between humanity and technology. Yet despite the dog, unlike the coyote, not symbolising the nature’s origins but much more the result of the culture currently most advanced. How to moderate between dog and human? Who exudes danger, who controls whom, or who must be tamed by whom?
Silke Grabinger joins urban and contemporary dance with performance art and robotics in her works and concepts. A special focus lies on a critical assessment with social phenomena, artistic paradigms and the function respectively the position of the audience. She is the founder and artistic director of dance companies SILK Cie and SILK FLUEGGE. In 2021, she additionally opened KLISCOPE, a creative space dedicated to emerging new experiments and visions. She started KLISCOPE ACADEMY in September of 2024. She currently works on further developing the transfer of compositional models into moving art forms with the Compositional transfer inbodied series, and sheds light on the relationship between humans and robotics in the SPOTSHOTBEUYS performance that was shown during the Venice Biennal opening weekend and at Vienna’s ImPulsTanz, as well as elsewhere.
