Ein*e Performer*in steht vor einem rot leuchtenden Kreis. Rechs und links von ihm*ihr sind Bildschirme, die ein Gesicht zeigen.

mi vida en tránsito documents an involuntary return to Argentina and the ensuing despair. Caruso + avila fashion a loving dialogue about depression and hope from this, bridging thousands of kilometres as well as the boundaries between reality and virtuality.

The friendship between Elvio Avila and Savino Caruso forms this project’s cornerstone. They are together on stage: Savino on site, Elvio live on screen from Argentina. Both friends simultaneously talk to the camera, to the audience, to each other. They talk about vulnerability and about not wanting to go on living anymore, yet being unable to die. They sing and dance together. And they wonder what all this has to do with them as men who, as children, adored western heroes for their strength, solitude, and callousness. 70 percent of all suicides in Germany are being committed by men. But on this theatre stage, the darkness tilts towards the light, loneliness into connection. The search for a livable future has found a meaningful milestone in their shared art project: Yes, art can save lives!

mi vida en tránsito is documentary theatre that picks up a socially relevant and very personal topic in male depression, yet it never strays into voyeurist territory.” – Laudation Premio-Jury
