Welcome to Wetland, a wet queer space that liquifies supposedly solid assumptions, mindsets, and categories. On a prepared, watered stage floor, the performers enter into a slippery dialogue with their permeable bodies. Wetland is a humid area that does not only manifest as a metaphorical-political space, but rather emerges on stage as a material-real space in which binary structures seep away as if in a swamp. The choreography makes virtuosic sliding techniques coalesce with a queer perspective, an approach that celebrates pleasure with pop-cultural influences, and it forms a stream that flushes out our all-too-stable comfortable mindsets.

In their handling of hydrofeminist discourse theory, Katharina Senzenberger and accomplices set out in search of the transformative potential of water in regard to space, body, and physicalness. They direct the attention to the porous relations of our aqueous bodies. They invite us into the zone of emergence, of assembly, of multiplication, of divergence, of differentiation, of transitioning. A fluid border space with constantly fluctuating edges. Where two complex systems meet, touch, clash, and transform one another.

Katharina Senzenberger graduated from her studies in contemporary dance at the Cologne University of Music in 2021 and has been working interdisciplinary, both solo as well as in a collective, between dance, performance, and visual arts since then. Senzenberger presented an initial work, the duet SOLID LIQUID, as part of Now & Next at tanzhaus nrw in the autumn of 2021. This piece has subsequently been invited to Favoriten Festival 2022.

We are pleased to present Wetland again at tanzhaus nrw as part of the festival tanz nrw 2023 after the great success at the premiere.

„We must learn to be at home in the quivering tension of the in-between.
In-between nature and culture, in-between biology and philosophy, in-between the human and everything we ram ourselves up against, everything we desperately shield ourselves from, everything we throw ourselves into, wrecked and recklessly, watching, amazed, as our skins become thinner.”
Astrida Neimanis
