MORGEN GRAUEN. Welche Monster kommen noch?

In the sound and video staging MORGEN GRAUEN. Welche Monster kommen noch?, transnational theatre ensemble Hajusom puts the finger into our collective wound. The performers are well acquainted with the situation when fear-filled looks meet, and they pose those really pressing but also repressed, questions of our society: Who feels threatened by whom? Who perceives whom as a monster? Whose fears take precedence?

The ensemble members, among them children, have received multiple awards, and they connect their own living realities, permeated by racism and instances of discrimination, with horror film motives in this performance to prove this: You do not even need vampires, zombies, or other genre-specific monsters to broach the issue of the real horror. The present scary, conflicting situation provides a template for this piece that is rousing and grants insightful glimpses into their self-assertive strategies – not in the least through video projections provided by horror expert and filmmaker Mathis Menneking as well as with rough camera angles that interfere like an autonomous actor. Individual perspectives become a collective narrative on the connections of colonialism and racism, aiming to overcome the Eurocentric feeling of superiority.

With a sensual musical interplay of poignant soliloquy, intense dance sequences with visuals, and a dense experimental horror soundtrack by Hamburg underground king Viktor Marek (Pudel Club, Jacques Palminger & Kings of Dubrock), the piece goes deep into the heart and appeals to our consciousness: Monstrosity and the simultaneous fear of our world’s cruelty dwell in all of us.
