1250 Mb/s
Which data do we expose? Scrolling through Facebook, zapping through Netflix, shopping on the internet? Which products provide loyalty points when we shop? That may not only be interesting for the supermarket, but also for your healthcare provider. 1250 Mb is an approximation towards the topics of Big Data. Employing the means of dance, the fabien prioville dance company examines processes of data collection and data usage. Collaborating with scientists from Düsseldorf University, Fabien Prioville and his team develop a haptic equivalent in the performative space for those processes in data tracking that normally play out clandestinely. The dancers’ costumes have been technically modified to store the wearers’ data, which will be made accessible to the audience via a proprietary, specially designed app. The stage becomes a freely accessible space for action in which a participatory and interactive dance performance unfolds. Data transfer between audience and dancers will happen. How and when will the audience decide to withdraw from this ever-closing data net?
Fabien Prioville has been concentrating on the intersection of dance and new technologies in his work for some years now. He is especially focused on virtual reality installations and dance tech performances. Most recently, this produced the VR installation project Rendez-Vous (2018) as well as the multi-perspective research The ZOOMOLOGISTS (2021). The company has been the recipient of the Excellence Grant in Dance of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia since 2021 due to these approaches.
