Performance Session

The Performance Session is a format for up-and-coming urban dancers who cradle ambitions for stage or choreography. As a format alongside the longstanding and well-tried Circle Session, the Performance Session offers opportunities to try out short performances, first attempts at stage ideas or experimental movement material on a stage, to receive feedback on this and to enter into an exchange with colleagues.

Choreographer and dancer Takao Baba has long been closely connected to tanzhaus nrw. The roots of his work lie in urban dance which he connects to the expressive modes of contemporary dance. Takao Baba founded dance company E-Motion in 2003, regularly developing dance theatre productions. The current production for children, Boys don’t dance, received invitations to the Augenblick mal! and Westwind festivals. He has also done choreographic work for Urbanatix since 2010, and he is the co-founder of the Dance Unity platform that promotes, in co-operation with tanzhaus nrw, Germany’s most important urban dance events Funkin’ Stylez and Juste Debout.
