DER BAU – Gruppe / Kids

Isabelle Schad
Big Stage
Dates
31.01.2019 – 02.02.2019
Mehrere Kinder schauen hinter einem Haufen schwarzer Kissen hervor.

A mountain. It moves and turns into a cave. The cave grows twenty arms and turns into a giant monster. The monster then becomes a nest, the nest a river and the river changes into a mountain again. Scenes that are reminiscent of landscape or abstract paintings and moving sculptures move about in Isabelle Schad’s ravishing children’s play. Ten performers and sixty large seat cushions create new variations of an animal’s shelter, time and again. The images swing between ghoulishness and security. Here, following the success of her solo “An Un-Folding Process / Kids“, Isabelle Schad again redevelops a play originally intended for an adult audience and now directs it at a young public. So, “DER BAU – Gruppe” was initially conceived as a performance for adults, inspired by Kafka’s eponymous, unfinished tale. Yet it occurred early on how easily children gained access, and a version for a young audience was created, a version inviting everyone to create their own shapes from the fantastic props at the end.

Isabelle Schad studied classical dance in Stuttgart and worked with numerous choreographers before starting to develop her own works in 1999. Her interdisciplinary projects tour festivals, museums and theatres internationally. Her solo work “DER BAU” was invited to the 2014 Tanzplattform, one of Germany’s most prestigious dance events which presents the twelve most outstanding German productions from the previous two years.
