Every Body Electric

Doris Uhlich
Big Stage
Dates
16.11.2018 – 17.11.2018
Drei Performerinnen mit Rollstühlen auf der Bühne.

Austrian choreographer and performance artist Doris Uhlich, last guesting at the sold out tanzhaus nrw staging her spectacular ensemble piece “more than naked” two years ago, presents a new variant of her collaborative “energy dance forms” with “Every Body Electric”. “Every Body Electric” has been developed in conjunction with eight physically disabled performers and may be seen as a radical invitation for us as the audience to discover dance potential.Which avenues of possibility open when machines such as wheel chairs, artificial limbs and crutches become extensions rather than obstacles, and when they are even staged as such? Personal rhythms develop, also dynamics and beats and physical characteristics that morph into idiosyncratic dance styles. The explosive force as well as the tender yet powerful poetry of “Every Body Electric” lies in the way the bodies perceive themselves and how they are perceived, in the end.

Multiple award-winning Doris Uhlich has become one of the most in-demand Austrian choreographers with her performances. She studied contemporary dance at the Vienna Conservatory. She has been realising her own projects since 2006 and has won the Viennese Nestroy Theatre Award for inclusion at eye level, together with Michael Turinsky, for her production “Ravemachine”.
