Reverbs

A dance creates movement, creates rhythm, creates wind: Through the “Reverbs’” echo, choreographer Özlem Alkis molds a moving sculpture, a sound installation or a dance continuing in the audience’s bodies. While three performers in constantly changing constellations circle the space and the audience, a pull emerges, a pull that, meticulously timed, blurs sensual boundaries. A temporary community unfolds, and in it, knowledge immediately permeates the senses – the floor’s vibration, the humming air, the dizzying repetition. Özlem Alkis’ choreographies, in which bodies, sounds, movement and materials grow together to form complex sculptures, are refreshingly clear and yet leave the audience in uncertainty. Özlem Alkis was born in Istanbul and works and lives in Cologne. She studied at the Centre Chorégraphique National de Montpellier, at the Centre National de Danse Contemporaine in Angers as well as at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Cologne. She was a co-founder of the Amber Art and Technology Festival in Istanbul, which she also directed until 2012. Also in 2012, she directed the Special Issue European Project of the festival that supports the development of discursive practice in the performing arts. In 2015, she was a stipendiary of the Akademie der Künste/ Art Academy in Berlin. Her work “Camouflage” guested at tanzhaus nrw already as a work in progress as well as within the tanz nrw 2016 festival.
