Identity-confused androids, all-consuming aliens or Earth struck by global climate catastrophe: Whenever people dare to make a forecast into the future , they do this with a convoluted, oftentimes scary mixed approach, providing the improbable with subversive latitude. In “us hearing voices”, the last instalment in their trilogy about the human as an undefined creature, Verena Billinger and Sebastian Schulz open the dance stage to the future’s “Unlikely Creatures”. As if in a sketchbook, they gather, obliterate and paint over visions from films, literature, science, architecture and music. The ensemble oscillates between the ideal image of a society to come and an epic foil for overhang, ruptures and contradiction that have not yet found a space in current body images and identity constructions.

Verena Billinger & Sebastian Schulz are occupied with society and the general public. For the artificial modelling and staging, they focus on the role of the body in their examples, images and topics. They understand its movement as a conductor and vital sign with which to create images, effects and active friction. “UNLIKELY CREATURES (drei/three) us hearing voices“ concludes their trilogy on improbable bodies. In it, they deal with the projection of current notions of the body into an unknown future. In 2014, the duo received the Sponsorship Award of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. Trade magazine “tanz” bestowed upon them the title of “Young Hope in Dance” in their 2015 yearbook. Since 2015, their artistic work has received the Promotion of Excellence Award of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia as well as support from the City of Frankfurt am Main since 2017. Verena Billinger & Sebastian Schulz studied applied theatre sciences, dance, choreography and performance in Gießen, Frankfurt, and Hildesheim.
