ZAURAK

Oscillating, pulsating, red, gigantic and 221.13 light years removed from the sun of our own solar system: The star Zaurak is the patron and impulse for the new dance performance by the MichaelDouglas Kollektiv. It starts from an artistic research on the perception of space and time and fundamental questions for the cosmic connection: How can we imagine phenomena such as black holes or dark matter? How does our understanding of the universe, of astronomy, of astrology and spirituality change?  Again, the Cologne collective invited choreographer Prue Lang who danced in Meryl Tankard’s Australian Dance theatre and was a formative stage presence with William Forsythe’s Ballett Frankfurt. She develops choreographic settings in “ZAURAK” that are connected like the five spikes of a star.  Among other things, tanzhaus nrw already collaborated with the Australian choreographer for “A translucent network – a sustainable dance performance“, on the connection between art production, sustainability and environmental technology.  The advancement of sustainable structures in work and communication in artistic and social context is also central to the MichaelDouglas Kollektiv. Apart from their stage plays, the group around artists Adam Ster, Douglas Bateman, Michael Maurissens, Sabina Perry and Susanne Grau has been developing new production and presentation formats since 2009, in collaboration with choreographers such as Vivienne Newport or those close to the Forsythe Company.
