Forro

Course with Regina Rodrigues

The course is aimed at anyone who is looking for an easily accessible couples dance and who enjoys rhythmic Brazilian music and would like to discover new dance styles. You can be a complete dance beginner or already have experience in other dances, you just shouldn't be afraid to get close to other people. Everyone is welcome, you don't need to bring a dance partner. The role of leader and follower is not tied to gender.

Forró - that's three in one: a style of music, a dance and a festival where you can experience both. The Forró Universitário dance style has spread throughout Europe and offers an open, family scene in which young and old, beginners and advanced people dance together. In Europe it is absolutely normal for women to lead and men to follow at Forró.
Basic Steps & Rhythm — Introduction to basic movements and musical timing.
Leadership & Connection — Techniques for pleasant, clear partner communication.
Turns & Figures — easy-to-learn variations that add variety to the dance.
Musicality — Dancing to a variety of tempos – from slow and sensual to fast and energetic.
Dance culture — insight into origins, music and different styles.

The course teaches the basic steps and first turns and movement sequences in Forró. We learn to distinguish between the most common rhythms in forró and dance accordingly. We change dance partners very often and the recommendation is to take part in the partner change so that what you have learned can be consolidated under different conditions.
• Relaxation, sense of rhythm, first steps in solo.
• Find connection, practice posture, lead & follow in a pair.
• Turns, step variations, balance and flow.
• short sequences of figures that work directly on the dance floor
• Exercise rounds with music to reinforce what you have learned in a playful way

Regina Rodrigues
