Afro Pop

Course with Oboja Adu

Classroom classes will only take place live with participants at the tanzhaus. Should it no longer be possible to continue the face-to-face classes due to pandemic restrictions, the remaining dates would be cancelled.

Oboja created the unique Afro Pop dance style. It mixes elements of traditional African dances with other dance forms like Soul Train, robot or breakdancing. Also, African popular music has adopted the denomination “Afro Pop”, too, also formulating a synthesis of various influences. In his classes, Oboja places an emphasis on rhythm and body exercises in order to first gain a feeling for the music and the movement vocabulary. Only after this will the participants properly experience the rich potential of this energetically charged dance style, because, according to Oboja, “dance and music are expressions of your attitude towards life”.
