About Dawna

“Dancing connects mind and body. Dancing tells stories. Dancing breaks through isolation. The basis of dance is rhythm. The essence of dancing is joy.”

Dawna

Dawna P. Dryhorub completed her training at the School of Toronto Dance Theatre, where she specialized in Graham and classical dance. In the mid-1990s, she was invited to participate in a project in Düsseldorf and soon became an artist and lecturer associated with tanzhaus nrw.
Dawna's teaching is characterized by her knowledge of healthy body use. She is not only concerned with teaching ballet exercises, but also with developing an awareness of one's own body and the logic of movement. She is also known for her humorous explanations and her easy-going manner, and she teaches dance with great enthusiasm.
Dawna not only teaches ballet for adults and adults over 50, but also the open class for people with Parkinson's, together with Bridget Quinn Petzhold. Dance can provide relief from symptoms for people with Parkinson's and significantly improve their quality of life. Dancing in different styles helps to counteract limitations in balance, flexibility, and coordination. Bridget and Dawna have completed training courses in dancing with people with Parkinson's with David Leventhal, the founder of DANCE for PD® in New York. Dawna is now part of the development of this special and relevant field. Important to note: This program is not a substitute for medical therapy.
