A powerful solo full of rhythm and energy, where African dance traditions meet hip-hop, and past meets present.

[Superstrat[ explores the roots of dance and music and their connections to the heritage of the African-American diaspora. Part initiatory journey, part migratory experience, the solo tells the story of the body’s memory. Through dance and music, it takes us across the ages through rhythms and gestures, back to the ancestral language of the body and its capacity for constant reinvention.

Was a dance or a music ever “invented”? Why do we identify with some influences, but not others? In a world shaped by migrations, both voluntary and enforced, how do cultures travel with populations and individuals?

The term superstrat refers to the traces left in one language by another. Applied to dance, it raises the question of how dance practices are passed on across generations and continents, how they change, intermingle and emerge anew.
