A polyphonic solo: Notes of Self is an intimate mixture of intellect and emotion, opening new approaches to dance, for children and grown-ups simultaneously. Playful, surprising, and full of movement, the choreography is aimed at a young audience, among them also those who have maybe never set foot in a theatre before, and it invites grown-ups to a new dialogue with the radical spirit of expressive dance.
The work takes inspiration from Batchelor’s research into the diasporic history of expressive dance in Australia and his current commitment for children as part of the LUNA PARK intiative in Berlin. Centuries-old avant-garde tradition meets children’s spontaneous movements and creates a performance that is as historically aware as it is contemporaneous.

Children’s perspectives do not only inform the movements but also the dramaturgy – what they perceive, what fascinates them, what they remember. The result is a solo that becomes a dialogue between generations, bodies, and perspectives.

The performance addresses an all-ages audience and welcomes both experienced dance enthusiasts as well as newcomers who are invited to find themselves in the performance’s energy and imagination.
