The world is your oyster.
All paths are laid out in front of you. Everything seems possible – as long as you decide.
Yet what do I really want?
Do I stay on this road or will I choose a shortcut?
Do I walk left or right?
Will I still hop on the train – or has it long since left the station?
Between innumerable options, expectations, duties and external influences, one is in danger of losing oneself. Perfectionism becomes a compass, albeit one that is utterly useless. A quest for orientation in a labyrinth of fear, anger, and strain, between coincidence and good fortune.
In Tracks , the 16 dancers of the tanzhaus nrw Jugendkompanie confronts these questions – both individually and as a community. How do we deal with the anxiety about the future, FOMO and the rapid, fast-paced nature of social media?
Dance becomes a means of expression for that which words fail to grasp: a room to share emotions, gather strength and to discover new ways.
Young people aged 12 to 18 gather in tanzhaus nrw’s Jugendkompanie to pursue professionalisation in dance and choreography and, in addition to weekly trainings, to stage an annual premiere production. Starting from their individual dance experiences, the youths independently develop movement material as well as choreographic elements and sequences. In this process, they receive coaching and accompaniment from Nora Pfahl and Takao Baba as well as from other professional dance creators. Through this, various dance impulses and dance forms find entry into the work. Classical, contemporary and urban elements intertwine.
The tanzhaus nrw Jugendkompanie is a development project grown from the take-off programme in the sector of talent support in dance and has received invitations to Tanztreffen der Jugend (Youth Dance Meeting) in Berlin in both 2024 and 2025.
