How do we as adults talk about love, gender, and identity with young people we encounter in everyday life but who are not our own children? And how can art open up spaces where questions about sex education can be discussed honestly, tenderly, and courageously?

The dance project Zuckerwatte in Echt by Tülvistas invites teachers and educators to engage in an exchange about queer sex education and sexual awareness. Through their work as Tülvistas, artists Franca Rosa von Sobbe and Julika Schlegel talk about age-appropriate communication and artistic approaches. During their first residency phase in November, the performers researched, danced, and asked young people aged 10 and up questions as part of SUGARLABs: What excites you? What do you not like? And how are you when you're “over-sugared”? These encounters gave rise to the dance piece Zuckerwatte in Echt , which understands puberty as a queer period of life – between mixed feelings, curiosity, and self-empowerment.

In the workshop, we will talk, move, and courageously explore the educational aspects of these topics in a school context. As teachers and educators, you are now invited to learn about our artistic work and reflect together: How can queer sex education be age-appropriate and empowering? How do artists work with the target group of 10-year-olds and older? Can we find ways to approach taboo topics that open up spaces in which young people are encouraged to address difficult issues openly and respectfully?

Following the workshop, we invite you to attend a performance of Zuckerwatte in Echt with your class.
