Utilising tap dance, music, and visual effects, Andrea Alvergue, in collaboration with international artists, examines the life experiences of several Leipzig-based migrants. Their struggle for better living conditions, the arrival in a new culture, adapting to new surroundings, customs and traditions – those are difficulties that accompany migrants on their journeys. Between a new language, new food and a different weather, loneliness and nostalgia are also among those experiences. How do I arrive? How can I stay connected to my home and true to myself?
In improvisation and composition, the Ravel dance piece, as an homage, ties into the diversity of cultural traditions. Andrea Alvergue and eclectic-electric violionist Raúl Marqúez merge rhythmic melodies and enthralling movement imagery into ambiguous narration. They transform stories about adversity and challenges into an ambience of connectedness. They use the interviews with the Leipzig migrants as the basis for the piece.
