VOICE NOISE suggests being part of a much longer event wherein dancers and voices come and go, in an infinite deployment of hidden or forgotten musical treasures. Inspired by The Gender of Sound, a 1995 essay by Anne Carson, Martens creates an eclectic mix from a century of female-read voices in music history: singing, humming, soothing, screaming, whispering. In her essay, Carson recounts how female voices were muted, perceived as superfluous or even as disturbing noise.

VOICE NOISE is a happening, a communal event for audience and performers. The theatre becomes an undefined open space in which viewing and listening are treated equally.

Duration: 90 min.
