Festival tanz nrw and NRW KULTURsekretariat form a special alliance for open-ended research residencies with their joint format SPRUNGBRETT <> TANZRECHERCHE NRW. The cooperating partners, along with tanzhaus nrw and PACT Zollverein, have been enabling up-and-coming artists and graduates* of North Rhine-Westphalian art academies to immerse themselves more in the exploration of their topics and to develop new ideas since 2015. The residents* gain access to the spaces and the expertise of both production venues for two-week periods each. Subsequently, the festival offers them the opportunity to present the state of their research in a number of cities without having to create a proper completed production.

Two groups have been selected for the 2021 festival edition: Igor Meneses Sousa and Paula Pau investigate the intersections and opposites of queerness and spirituality. Both performers* most recently guested at tanzhaus nrw in February 2021, showing “Imminent Arrival” as part of Now & Next.

Joana Kern, Sonja Reischl and Wenta Ghebrehiwet, three dancers and choreographers, deal with their identities as women – both in everyday life as well as in the world of dance. As a purely female dance collective, they set an example in an oftentimes male-dominated genre.
