Dunham Class

Course with Joseph P. Cooksey

Dunham Technique is based on studies by choreographer, dancer, anthropologist and political activist Katherine Dunham, set to dances from Martinique, Jamaica, Trinidad and Haiti. These influences from Afro-American, West Indian and Caribbean dance were tied together by the US-American Black dance pioneer and transformed into an original dance language. In his Dunham class, Joseph P. Cooksey teaches a wide spectrum of this versatile movement form that belongs to the canon of jazz and modern dance, yet is to many more than a dance style and rather a complete “way of life”.
