Tango Argentino

Course with Stefanie Pla Pérez

Tango Argentino has fascinated more and more people around the world for many years. The Tanzhaus Tango team, consisting of Jost Budde, Stefanie Pla Pérez, Andrea, Armin Arabi and Mareike Focken, has developed a special teaching method that makes it possible to dance freely from the first lesson. Her style, shaped by many long nights in the milongas of Buenos Aires, combines traditional elements with modern tendencies of the younger generation of dancers, called Neotango or Tango Nuevo. In her in-depth lessons, the focus is on learning to “connect with your partner” or as Jost says: “dancing for two in an embrace”.
Tango is like an “open source system”: “We teach technical basics and movement principles as tools or building blocks for your own development,” says Mareike. Improvisation and creativity are very important: Tango Argentino always arises in the moment, through the embrace and the desire to move harmoniously to the music as a couple. “Since there is no fixed sequence of steps, all senses are challenged and only 100% attention to the partner enables a harmonious flow of movement,” says Stefanie.
According to Andrea, the aim of the lessons is also to "continually refine the communication of the dancing couple. This increases the ability to interpret the music in an increasingly personal, improvised, and immediate way and to achieve a dynamic variety of movements. Tango dancing at a high level leads to a fusion in the couple and with the music, which makes every moment unrepeatable and therefore 100% real."

Argentine tango has been a constant source of fascination for more and more people around the world for many years. The tanzhaus nrw tango team, consisting of Jost Budde, Stefanie Pla Pérez, Andrea, Armin Arabi and Mareike Focken, has developed a distinctive teaching method that enables participants to dance from the first class on. Their style is informed by many long nights in Buenos Aires' Milongas, while they join traditional elements with modern influence, the so-called neo tango or tango nuevo tendencies in the younger generation of dancers. Their well-founded classes bring the “connection with the partner” to the fore, or, as Jost puts it, “couple dancing in embrace”.
In this, tango resembles an “open source system”: “We convey technical foundations and movement principles as tools or building blocks for individual development,” according to Mareike. Accordingly, improvisation and creativity are very important: Argentine tango always emerges within each separate moment, through embrace and the desire to move harmoniously to the music. “Due to the lack of a strict sequence of steps, all senses are called for, and only paying one hundred percent attention to the partner will yield a harmonious flow in movement,” says Stefanie.
Andrea adds that the aim of the classes lies in "refining the dance couple's communication. With this, the ability to interpret the music even more individually, more in improvisation, more directly, will grow, and a dynamic variety of movement will be achieved. High-level tango dancing leads to a merging within the couple and the music, in which every moment is irretrievable and so one hundred percent authentic."
For this course registration is only possible in couples.

Stefanie Pla Pérez

Stefanie Pla Pérez has been teaching Argentine tango for many years and has also worked internationally as a dancer, lecturer and DJane at a wide variety of events. Starting from the traditional Tango Argentino in music and dance style, she curiously follows the current trends and combines old with new, always looking for naturalness and joy of movement. Stefanie began her dance training as a child with classical ballet, modern and jazz dance. Simultaneously with her studies and her work on the opera and children's theater stage, she discovered her love for Argentine tango, which she was able to discover and pass on internationally as a dancer and teacher. Years later, she also found the movement principles of tango for herself in classical Pilates training. Out of enthusiasm for the similarities between Pilates and Tango, the heart project "Tango meets Pilates" was initially born in 2018, the techniques she also incorporates into the lessons. In addition to working on a good tango dance technique, it is important to her to convey to the participants the joy of music and musical dancing, the individual quality of movement and the harmonious connection to the dance partner, so that they can experience tango dancing again and again as a wonderful event.
