Community of Reception , Wie noch nie (Like never before)

How can dance be created and experienced when different modes of perception are the starting point? Three teams of artists with different relationships to vision develop a series of ten-minute performance pieces in response to this question. Through the interplay of performance, dance, description, listening, sensing and movement, anything can happen. The works invite audiences to experience dance collectively, through multiple senses and beyond visual norms.

This showing is conceived as an open space for encounter and exchange. The presentations offer insights into artistic processes, experiments and lived experiences. In the discussion that follows, artists and audience members come together to share reflections on working methods, experiences and questions. The afternoon then continues with a party and dancing.

At tanzhaus nrw, a Community of Reception works alongside researchers and artists under the direction of Sophia/Fia Neises and Zwoisy Mears-Clarke to reimagine dance as an art form grounded in different ways of perceiving. At the heart of this work is audio description as an artistic practice that brings movement, language and sound into dialogue, opening up new perspectives on dance.

The Laboratory for Creative Audio Description  at tanzhaus nrw is a space for learning, exchange and artistic development. It strengthens the presence and perspectives of blind and visually impaired people within dance and works to remove barriers in practical, artistic and structural ways. In doing so, it fosters new forms of collaboration and new ways of experiencing dance.
